Rare Books & Reference Materials
We have a vast collection of print resources about photography, including rare books, journals, exhibition catalogs, auction catalogs and ephemera. Scholars, authors, museum professionals, artists, and students are invited to use these for research projects focusing on photography as well as cultural studies, environmental history, history of optics, music, and many other areas. The bulk of CCP's books are now accessible for browsing in the Volkerding Study Center.
Our book collection can be used in-house through the Laura Volkerding Study Center by making an appointment in advance, or by visiting during walk-in hours on Fridays. If you would like assistance with a research project, please make an appointment with the librarian. Please note that drop-in hours are only available for those interested in looking at the book collection; advance appointments are still needed to access archival, oral history, and fine print materials.
- In the interest of the health and welfare of our patrons, staff, faculty, and students, the Center will be closed through the end of the year. This includes our galleries as well as our in-person programs, events, and research spaces. We believe this is a responsible and ethical step, and we look forward to coming together again as a community when the time is right.
If you would like to make an appointment, please contact Alexis Peregoy, Associate Archivist.
