CCP Members and guests, join the Center for an event that celebrates Tucson’s rich creative community. A panel of Southwest based independent publishers and book-makers will present on their own publishing efforts, methods, and discuss the accessibility and collectibility of artist books. These presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and question and answer period with the audience. Registration is required for this event, RSVP here.

PANELISTS
Andy Burgess is an artist and publisher focusing on small run and limited edition photography books and fine art photography through Dark Spring Press. Founded by Burgess in 2017, Dark Spring Press is committed to honoring the collaboration between photographer, designer and printer to create a beautiful end product with high production values and collectability.   

Tim Schaffner founded Schaffner Press, Inc. in 2001 and has since published over fifty titles of literary fiction, non-fiction and poetry that deal with themes of universal social concern and social change, such as health, the environment, issues of race, war, and other humanitarian issues. Schaffner Press recently entered the sphere of photography book publication with its September 2019 publication Children of Grass featuring portraits by photographer B.A. Van Sise. These portraits and corresponding poetry is on view at the Center for Creative Photography in the current exhibition, A Portrait of Poetry: Photographs and Video by B.A. Van Sise.

Karen Zimmermann is an artist and designer. She is also the Assistant Director of the School of Art as well as a professor in the Illustration and Design Program at the University of Arizona. Her courses involve the study of visual communication, typography, and artist publications. Zimmermann also continues to produce broadsides and books utilizing letterpress printing, risograph and other methods of self-publishing.  

Philip Zimmermann is an artist, educator, and publisher from New York. Since 2008 he has resided in Tucson. Zimmermann founded Spaceheater Editions in 1979, focusing on open-edition and limited-edition artists’ books, publishing his own and other’s work. The thirty five artists’ books that he has published in the last 40 years are usually photo-based but also use printmaking, illustration and design.
