Since 1987 the Center has offered a paid internship to qualified University of Arizona graduate students. This opportunity allows students to experience a wide variety of museum and archive activities and to gain experience working at the Center for Creative Photography. Past interns have worked with Center staff in the curatorial, education, archives, and digital imaging areas. Depending on student interest and current Center needs, an internship is designed each year for a specific area, and may address a particular project within that area. The Ansel Adams Internship is available for the 2019/2020 school year, and the application deadline is March 1, 2019.
The College of Art offers a tuition waiver and the Center offers a stipend to the Ansel Adams Internship recipient.
Please send the following documents:
- Letter of interest indicating educational background, relevant personal accomplishments, educational and professional goals, and an indication of how you would envision working with Center staff. If you are basing your proposal on an existing or new Center project, you are strongly advised to discuss this possibility in advance with the appropriate Center staff. The most important component of this letter is a clear statement of the effect an internship would have on achievement of the candidate's goals.
- Letter of recommendation from at least one faculty member in the applicant's college. Incoming students should submit a recommendation letter from their most recent college.
- Copy of the most current University of Arizona grade transcript (unofficial is fine). Incoming students should submit a copy of their most recent transcript.
- Current local contact information including email address and telephone number.

Hali Niles is a second-year M.A. student in Art History at the University of Arizona. Her educational background consists of a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, where she focused in Human Osteology and Archaeology. In addition, she has completed minors in Art History and Latin. Hali has gained four years of experience working with museum collections while researching and inventorying the University of Mississippi’s Anthropology faunal remains collection and the University of Mississippi Museum’s David M. Robinson Collection. As CCP’s Ansel Adams Intern, Hali has begun a full inventory Edward Weston and the W. Eugene Smith fine print collections. This internship has not only increased her knowledge about fine print collections management and registration methods but has also provided a unique opportunity to interact with many other departments within the CCP, such as External Relations/Communications, Preparation, and Visitor Services. Upon graduation in the spring 2019, Hali hopes to pursue a career in Collections Management or Registration.
- Molly Kalkstein is a second-year PhD student in Art History, with a focus on the history of photography, museum studies, and Digital Humanities. She received an MA in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management from Ryerson University in 2013, an MFA in Print Media from Concordia University in 2005, and a BA in English Literature and Studio Art from Swarthmore College in 2001. From 2013–2016, she worked at the CCP as the Research Associate on the Harry Callahan project. She was also the 2012 William and Elizabeth Patterson Curatorial Fellow in Photography at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. During her tenure as the Ansel Adams Intern, Molly will work with the library and archives staff to create an online version of the CCP’s scholarly publication The Archive, the thirty-five issues of which are currently out of print. This internship supports her professional commitment to curatorial museum work and her interest in digital platforms and methodologies.
- Meghan L. Jordan received a B.F.A in Professional Photographic Illustration with a minor in Art History from Rochester Institute of Technology. She is currently in her second year in the Art History graduate program at the University of Arizona focusing on the relationship between atrocity photographs and the gaze. Prior to her current position at CCP, she interned for two semesters with CCP’s Registration Department and worked for one summer at the Volkerding Study Center. She has also held curatorial internships at the George Eastman House and The Museum of Modern Art, and worked as the assistant for Be-hold, a small auction house located outside of New York City that specializes in historic photographs. Meghan aspires to earn a Ph.D. in Art History and have a career as a curator and scholar. In her current position she is working in the Registration Department with the goal of inventorying the fine print collection.

2013 & 2014
- Krista Joy Niles earned a B.A. in Journalism with an emphasis in photojournalism from San Francisco State University. She then worked for newspapers across the United States for 15 years before returning to pursue a Master of Arts in Art History at the University of Arizona. in 2002, Krista won the Pulitzer Prize in Breaking News for her contributions to The New York Times's coverage of September 11, 2001. Most recently she was the Program Director of a Tucson-based arts education non-profit. While at the Center for Creative Photography, Krista is working primarily with the Center's archivists. Her professional goal is to work as a museum curator and build public arts programs.
- Rachel Sadvary completed a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh while serving as a graduate assistant in the Registrar’s office at the Carnegie Museum of Art. She is currently enrolled in the Master's in Art History program at the University of Arizona and her professional goal is to become a museum collections manager or archivist. While at the CCP, Rachel will be working primarily with the Registration department.
