The special reading features poets Ofelia Zepeda, Amber Lee Ortega and Su:k Chu:vak Fulwilder. 

Join us for the screening of Witnesses to Democracy: the Journey of a Mother and a Photographer, an award-winning documentary film that tells the story of three people brought together by the tragic killing of college student Lee Han-yeol, whose death propelled the South Korean Democracy movement in June 1987.

The Center for Creative Photography, in collaboration with the University of Arizona's Center for East Asian Studies, the College of Humanities, and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, presents "2086: Together How?," a keynote lecture by Prof. Park Kyong.

Laura Aguilar: Nudes in Nature is the first exhibition to bring together nearly 60 photographic works from five series of nude self-portraits by the groundbreaking photographer Laura Aguilar (1959–2018). 

Join us for the screening of the Korean documentary "Tour of Duty," followed by a conversation with directors Dongryung Kim and Kyoungtae Park. Their 2012 award-winning film centers around the life stories of the three survivors of the camp town. In the film the directors listen to their stories, inviting the women to engage with their camera to recollect their memories in the military camp towns.

Step into the captivating world of Contemporary Korean society, where tradition meets rapid modernization and Western influence. Wonders and Witness: Contemporary Photography from Korea is an exhibition that invites you to explore the diverse facets of Korean life- its desires, anxieties, frustrations, and mysteries.

The International Symposium on Korean Photography is co-organized by the Center for Creative Photography and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, in collaboration with the School of Art. The symposium, held at the CCP auditorium, focuses on the state of contemporary Korean photography. 

Join us on October 12 as the Center for Creative Photography, in collaboration with the Etherton Gallery, proudly present renowned photographer Takeshi Ishikawa to the stage at the CCP auditorium.

Drawn from five series: World War II, Nurse Midwife, Jazz Loft, Hitachi Corporation, and Minamata, W. Eugene Smith’s work will be presented with archival material that helps expand consideration of his practice beyond an art historical lens, connecting his photographs to other fields and disciplines.

Between the start of the University of Arizona’s Fall 2023 semester and the installation period for the Center for Creative Photography’s mid-November exhibition (stay tuned for the official announcement!), Studio CCP is a place where the campus community can come together for a broad and eclectic range of programming–classes, workshops, talks, crits, screenings, and happenings.

Richard Avedon: Relationships, envisioned by Chief Curator Rebecca Senf for the Tucson galleries of the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona in 2018, has been expanded and will go on view in Palermo, Italy starting this April.

Fashioning Self: The Photography of Everyday Expression examines the role of photography in shaping, sharing, and shifting identity.

In this lecture, Dr. Leigh-Anna Hidalgo presents her groundbreaking work, Casos De Justicia, and the engaged digital humanities research methodology of augmented fotonovelas. Drawing from critical anthropology, Chicanx/Latinx visual cultural studies and the emerging field of urban humanities, Hidalgo provides students and guests with a case study that charts the ways research and co-creative practices shapes activism and communities, and vice versa.

Mural-scale digital projections rotating photographs of the southwestern United States from CCP’s collection hypnotically tangle with a chance array of music and sound. 8-Track will also be stage to a curated schedule of live, in-gallery performances by regional musicians, commissioned to perform work inspired by CCP’s collection of photography.

Inspired by Linda McCartney’s plant-based movement and Mary McCartney’s contemporary project “Mary McCartney Serves It Up!,” CCP will bring our community together for creative experiences and meaningful connections through food, photographs, and conversation.

Sessions on Creative Photography is one comprehensive look at the boundary-breaking career of Hazel Larsen Archer, from her instrumental work in photography within mid century avant-garde art circles to her transformative approach to photo education.
