Fashioning Self: The Photography of Everyday Expression examines the role of photography in shaping, sharing, and shifting identity.

In this lecture, Dr. Leigh-Anna Hidalgo presents her groundbreaking work, Casos De Justicia, and the engaged digital humanities research methodology of augmented fotonovelas. Drawing from critical anthropology, Chicanx/Latinx visual cultural studies and the emerging field of urban humanities, Hidalgo provides students and guests with a case study that charts the ways research and co-creative practices shapes activism and communities, and vice versa.

Mural-scale digital projections rotating photographs of the southwestern United States from CCP’s collection hypnotically tangle with a chance array of music and sound. 8-Track will also be stage to a curated schedule of live, in-gallery performances by regional musicians, commissioned to perform work inspired by CCP’s collection of photography.

Inspired by Linda McCartney’s plant-based movement and Mary McCartney’s contemporary project “Mary McCartney Serves It Up!,” CCP will bring our community together for creative experiences and meaningful connections through food, photographs, and conversation.

Curated by members of the photographer’s family, this exhibition covers Linda McCartney’s whole career, from 1965 to 1997. The range of works in the exhibition, including never-before-seen Tucson views, reflect the spontaneity and ease of her photographic style.

Visit CCP for the Opening Day and enjoy the North American premiere of The Linda McCartney Retrospective, photography by her beloved teacher, Hazel Larsen Archer, an image+sound installation co-created with Arizona Arts Live, and hands-on activities.

Sessions on Creative Photography is one comprehensive look at the boundary-breaking career of Hazel Larsen Archer, from her instrumental work in photography within mid century avant-garde art circles to her transformative approach to photo education.

The Artists Collective–under the guidance of Nhan Ho, a second-year graduate student at University of Arizona’s School of Dance–will partner with CCP and the College of Fine Arts to present an experiential performance inspired by Wonders and Witness: Contemporary Photography from Korea.

The School of Art, Arizona Arts, and the Center for Creative Photography, University of Arizona, are excited to invite you to our third symposium on Asian photography, a full day virtual symposium entitled “Photography and Southeast Asia: History and Practice.” This symposium is free and open to the public.

{POSTPONED}  Sama Alshaibi and Dr. Deborah Willis will take an immersive look into the visual and identity politics of portraiture and self-portraiture, into imagining the body as a setting in which political and personal narratives intersect and unfold.

Join us for a lecture by Graciela Iturbide as she discusses her immense 50+ year career in photography, co-hosted by Etherton Gallery and the Center for Creative Photography, with consecutive interpretation by Jaime Fatás Cabeza.

Photographer Alanna Airitam and author Kirsten Imani Kasai discuss the experience of being photographed as a subject for The Golden Age and the dynamics of race, identity, belonging, and colorism as it pertains to this photographic series as well as their independent works of art and literature.

Why Color? is the first class residency piloted by the Center for Creative Photography + Art & Visual Culture Education in the School of Art. Simultaneously a classroom and installation, the project launches in early September inviting University of Arizona graduate students in the course “Participatory Practices and Edu-Curation in Exhibitions” to design an exhibition from CCP’s collection of color photography.

And Let it Remain So: Women of the African Diaspora brings together the work of five photographers who explore their experiences of the African Diaspora and its influence on their understandings of identity, community, place, and displacement. 

Join Film Fest Tucson and The Center for Creative Photography for a print viewing and film screening on the topic of infamous photographer Eadweard Muybridge.

The CCP archives will host a pop-up display that will delve deeper into the collections to provide additional context and opportunities for exploring photographers’ engagement of trees.
