Building Health Resilience: Reflections on Care, Consciousness, and Community is an exhibition about an international collaboration between the University of Arizona (U of A), Universidad Sonora, and Instituto Interamericano de Educación Superior para la Salud.
Using PhotoVoice—a form of documentary photography—U of A College of Nursing students from NURS 250 explored the vital connections between care, consciousness, and community in shaping health and well-being:
- Care encompasses the ways we support one another physically, emotionally, and socially.
- Consciousness fosters awareness of systemic health challenges, personal well-being, and the voices that need to be heard.
- Community represents the collective strength, traditions, and shared spaces that build resilience.
Through their lenses, students captured personal and collective experiences, shedding light on both challenges and strengths within diverse communities in Arizona, USA and Sonora, MX. Graduate students in the U of A School of Art’s Art and Visual Culture Education courses designed curatorial and participatory components in the exhibition. As you engage with this exhibition, we invite you to reflect on your own experiences and contribute your perspectives on these themes.
This project is made possible with support from the Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Seed Grants and the Research, Innovation, and Impact (RII) Production Grant at the University of Arizona.
