Rare Books & Reference Materials
CCP holds a vast collection of print resources about photography, including rare books, journals, exhibition catalogs, auction catalogs and ephemera. Scholars, authors, museum professionals, artists, and students are invited to use these for research projects focusing on photography as well as cultural studies, environmental history, history of optics, music, and many other areas. The bulk of CCP's books are now accessible for browsing in the Volkerding Study Center.
Our book collection can be used in-house through the Laura Volkerding Study Center by making an appointment in advance, or by visiting during walk-in hours on Fridays. If you would like assistance with a research project, please make an appointment with the librarian. Please note that drop-in hours are only available for those interested in looking at the book collection; advance appointments are still needed to access archival, oral history, and fine print materials.
- Rare books appointment availability: Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Rare books drop-in hours: Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
December 2020 update: While the Study Center remains closed due to the University of Arizona’s COVID-19 response and safety response policy, CCP’s archivists are available for remote research assistance. If requests for materials cannot be fulfilled remotely, we will offer in-person research assistance once it is safe to do so. We ask for your patience as we are a small staff working through a backlog of requests and currently have limited onsite access to collections.
